Valentine's Day!

You guys! Friday is Valentines day!!  If you're like me its crunch time! Before I get to the fun part lets go over what valentines day is about, how to celebrate it with your kids and some things teachers in all grades around the country would like parent to remember about valentines day!

While researching this holiday I learned a few different reasons for it. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. That story blew my mind but i loved it!

1. Learning Will Go On

As much as we would LOVE a free day but.. no such luck! Teachers still have to teach so there will be lessons and learning happening at school!

2. There May Be A No-Child-Left-Behind Policy

This is a very good time to teach our kiddos how to include everyone! They may not like every kid in class and that's OK, but it's not OK to make our friends feel sad and that's what happens when they feel left out! Its the perfect opportunity to teach a friendship/feelings lesson to our kids!

4. Teachers May Play Down The Candy

We all the love candy but... In February chances of going outside are hit or miss! Without that outlet for running and exercising too much sugar is just asking for it!! NOBODY wants to be trapped inside with a classroom full of kids on a sugar high!

5. Food Sensitivities May Be An Issue

Sometimes we have kiddos with food allergies, even allergies to certain candy or treats! If that occurs maybe one year instead of decorating a sugar cookie in class they decorate a heart or a valentines box and that's totally awesome!
I'll skip the rest of the list because it's not very fun! I feel like you got the idea! Let's get to the fun stuff! In my house we usually do a family valentines day and then my husband and i celebrate later. I think this year we'll just stick to a family celebration and call it good! Here are a few celebration, gift and box ideas for your fam! A box of chocolate goes to the person/family that takes, sends or tags me in pictures the their family valentines day! Have a good weekend! Love ya!
